Union Market

Union Market is a year-round indoor market featuring 40 local artisans that opened September 8, 2012. With fresh produce, dairy, fish and meat as well as juice and oyster bars, barrels of pickles and enough ice cream and sorbet to give half the city an ice cream headache, the market hopes to rival other area farmers markets and Eastern Market. Closest Metro is NoMA-Gallaudet University.

In a renovated warehouse off Florida Avenue, the space was large and airy, filled with light and many patrons on this weekend. It reminded me of the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco with the mix of artisan shops/stands and café/restaurants with high end prices similar to Eataly in NYC.  Surrounding the market will be "a vibrant mix of retail, restaurants, hotel, entertainment, incubator space for new food concepts as well as retail and wholesale space."  Market Hours: Wednesday-Friday 11am to 8pm; Saturday-Sunday 8am to 8pm.

Keith and I headed out to tour Union Market this Saturday morning and took a few photos to share.  Since a few shops are yet to open and the pop-ups may interchange, we plan to return to check those out as well:
