Morimoto Maui

Morimoto Maui is inspired to give a modern Japanese beach house vibe. Located in the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort in Kihei, the restaurant itself is a bit tricky to find on the lower level near the swimming pools.

We ordered a bottle of Dassai 39 Sake to go with our meal.  Lush with green apple undertones, this medium-dry sake paired well with our meal.

We started with the Hamachi Crudo topped with hot oil and a little mixed green salad with mitsuba - a Japanese herb similar to parsley with a celery-like taste. The fish was tasty but different with the contrast of temperatures.

From the hot appetizers, we ate the Rock Shrimp Tempura served two ways - tossed in a gochujang sauce and in a wasabi aioli.  The shrimp was plentiful, but we didn't find it that exciting and something you can get at any chain restaurant now days.

We decided to god for the Chef's Sushi Combination at $100 for two people.  The sushi itself was a mix of favorites and local offerings featuring 20 pieces of nigiri and 12 pieces of rolls.

Overall, we had a decent meal but were a bit underwhelmed by the Iron Chef's offerings.  Additionally, we were seated inside near the sushi bar, which had a very boring neutral decor and zero view of outside.  This knocked down the ambience score.
