Baan Siam

Formerly known as Baan Thai, Baan Siam opened on the corner of 4th and I Streets NW in 2020. After a fantastic run on 14th Street, Chef Jeeraporn ''P' Boom" Poksupthong and her team decided that time had come to upgrade to a bigger space with a better kitchen. Chef P' Boom grew up in Thailand, learning to cook from her mother and grandmother.  Here you can find both traditional and harder-to-find Thai dishes.  Closest Metro is Judiciary Square.

I had some family in town, so we met up with them for dinner one night as this restaurant was near the hotel they were staying at.  They had requested Thai food and this restaurant was named Best in DC for 2021.  Though we had not been in before, I trusted that the food would not disappoint.

Keith ordered the Khao Soi Gài.  He had this spicy dish when we visited Chiang Mai, so immediately wanted to order it when he saw it on the menu.  The combination of egg noodles, chicken thigh, pickled cabbage, scallions, red onion, and Northern Thai chili paste hit the spot and with 🌶️🌶️🌶️ was quite spicy!

I ordered something with only two 🌶️🌶️ thinking it would be more tame - but I am a wimp and the Khao Pad Tom Yum Goong (Tom Yum Fried Rice with Shrimp) was super tasty but a little too hot for me.  The shrimp were cooked perfectly and I loved the mixture of rice, egg, lemongrass, tomatoes, chili, onion, cilantro, and Tom Yum chili paste.

Portions were generous, service was courteous and friendly, and the atmosphere was bright, spacious, and inviting.  We enjoyed everything and would like to try many more items on the menu.
