Mystic Pizza

While in Mystic, CT we had to make a late night stop and get "a slice of heaven" from Mystic Pizza.  Most famous as the setting for a story of the lives and loves of three young waitresses in the 1988 movie of the same name that was filmed on location in Mystic and neighboring towns, Mystic Pizza is a town favorite.  But does the pizza hold up to reputation?

Apparently not... but it was not bad enough to keep me from finishing several pieces.  Keep in mind it was very late at night and I had a few cocktails so the pizza didn't taste that bad to me.  I ordered a small House Special to share with Keith.  It was described as a hand tossed pizza made with pepperoni, meatball (omitted from mine), sausage, green peppers, onions and mushrooms.  The cheese was gooey and the toppings were good. But the crust - oh the horror!  The crust was soggy and reminiscent of bad microwave pizza.

Nevertheless, we finished the small pie to let all the cheese and sauce soak up the alcohol and proceeded on our walk home.  I did not spot any celebrities (supposedly Taylor Swift was in town and had the same drunken pizza craving as me) such as Julia Roberts - but we did spot a look-a-like hanging out above the bar:
