We decided to venture out to this part of the city and check out this Filipino restaurant. We were seated upstairs and after looking over the menu we decided on a few things. First, Keith started with the Lechon Kawali - crispy fried braised pork with mango sauce. The meat was a bit fatty in parts, but was fried pretty through and provided a nice chewy bite that went well with his beer.
For our main entrees we shared Pancit Bihon traditional thin rice noodles stir fried with carrot, celery, sugar snap peas, cabbage and long beans. There were options to add on other vegetables or meat, but we just ordered the plain version. It was a generous portion and we had plenty leftover to take home.
I really wanted to try the Eggplant Adobo - fried eggplant in adobo sauce with coconut milk, soy sauce, vinegar, and toasted garlic served with jasmine rice. The sauce was tangy and not as sweet as I expected. The eggplant was tender and a great vegetarian dish.
Lastly, we shared one of the specials - Spicy Fried Chicken Adobo. It came with side salad and spicy fried rice. The chicken has nice crisp on the outside and was juicy on the inside. Again, the spice factor was lacking, and the sourness of the adobo took over, but it was a very tasty dish nonetheless.
There are not many Filipino restaurants in DC, so if you don't mind the trek out then try this neighborhood spot. It seemed very popular with families and offers brunch on weekends.
