Bota Sare

At the seaside promenade in Mali Ston, in the medieval salt storage room there is a restaurant called Bota Sare, which is an old name for arched ceiling. The restaurant offers and nourishes the original Dalmatian cuisine, and the inspiration for their dishes is drawn from the two old cookbooks found in dusty corners of this monumental building. Oyster as a symbol of this area, and then all other shells, crabs and fish are stored according to original Ston recipes from the time of the Dubrovnik Republic.

We stopped here for lunch on our drive to Dubrovnik from Split.  It was pretty hot outside, but they still sat everyone outside under their shaded roof.  We started with fresh bread and their housemade fish spread.  This "cover" is brought automatically - if you don't want to pay for it you must tell them right away.  But we were open to try it and felt the cost was minimal.

With a glass of Posip, we ordered fresh oysters, grilled oysters, and fried oysters to start.  They were super briny and it was cool to eat something this fresh from these local waters.

Keith thought we should order one more thing, so he chose Scampi which we thought were shrimp but were actually large langoustines. They brought all the intricate tools to tackle these little guys, and it was a bit more work than anticipated but Keith got through it - especially after seeing the price for these 3 little guys.

Overall, we had a fancy seafood lunch in Mali Ston and enjoyed the little stopover.
