Santé

Santé at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn
is best described as “California fusion with a Sonoma passion.” With a reverence to fresh, simple preparation and the use of local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible, the culinary team presents an approachable menu that includes flavors, techniques and recipes from several cultures. Seasonal ingredients from regional producers (which include wineries, breweries, ranches, fisheries and farmers) are always center stage. After a full day of visiting wineries, we decided to dine out at our hotel this evening.

We ordered a bottle of 2018 "Highwayman" Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma Valley.  It was dangerously smooth yet bold and structured - a powerhouse Cab.

We shared the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Peanuts, Lime, Chili, and Fish Sauce.  This vegetable is not my favorite, but the Thai flavors were intriguing.

The King Salmon Sashimi was prepared in a Mexican style with Habanero Aquachile, Crispy Shallots, Avocado Mousse, and served with Taro Chips.  The fish itself was very fresh and the two starters went well together.

For my main course, I ordered something a bit more hearty to fill up all the wine in my belly.  The Pan Seared Gnocchi had a nice crunchy texture and great summer flavors with Sweet Corn, Confit Leeks, Baby Spinach, and Truffle Butter.  This dish paired nicely with the red wine.

Keith enjoyed the Roasted Lamb Sirloin with Eggplant Puree, Rainbow Chard, Lamb Bacon, and Lavender Jus.

Overall, we had a great dinner at our hotel and ordered breakfast (delivered to our room) and lunch (served poolside)  from here the next day as well.

For breakfast, Keith ate the Caramelized Brioche French Toast served with bananas foster and maple syrup.  I ate a lighter Californian staple, the Avocado Toast with cherry tomatoes, everything seasoning, feta cheese served with baby kale.  Though a bit like guacamole, I really enjoyed this healthy breakfast.

For lunch, Keith ate the SMI Burger - a grilled Angus burger with cheddar, lettuce, and garlic aioli served with fries.  I stuck with my "healthy" trend and ordered the Nashville Chicken Wrap - spicy crispy fried chicken with coleslaw, lettuce and pickles wrapped in a spinach tortilla.  It was served with a large side salad.  We actually ordered these from the Water Tower Bar located at the pool and was surprised by the generous portion.  It was enough to hold us over until dinner.
