Schooners Monterey

Suspended over the waves of Monterey Bay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel, Schooners Monterey serves contemporary American cuisine with a focus on carefully sourced seafood. A bustling exhibition kitchen and heated waterfront terrace provide a welcoming and lively atmosphere for travelers and locals alike.  We stopped here for dinner after our day long tour along the coast.

We were seated outside with an amazing view of the bay.  We started with the Fresh Catch that included 5 Morro Bay Pacific Gold Oysters, 5 black tiger prawns, and octopus ceviche.  The prawns were huge and filling!

As the sun was setting, it was getting a little chilly outside so I wanted the Coastal Clam Chowder.  Studded with Manila clams, potatoes, and celery in a broth of cream and sherry wine this soup was delicious.  I sopped up every last bit with some warm sourdough bread.

Lastly, I was pretty full already so we shared the daily fish - tonight was Grilled Opah (Hawaiian Moon Fish) served with prawns, potatoes, and cherry tomatoes.  It had a Spanish vibe and was very tasty.  The fish was meaty with a smoky flavor from the grill.

The seafood was incredibly fresh and the ambience was romantic.  All in all we had a great meal in Monterey.
