Sushi Aoi

Last date I was here: 1/23/2009

Restaurant: Sushi Aoi (http://www.thesushiaoi.com/)

Location: McPherson Square

Total Rating: 3.9
Food: 4, Price: 4, Service: 4, Ambience: 3, Accessibility: 4

Summary: This casual Japanese restaurant seems to be popular with the after work/happy hour crowd. The location was not super convenient for us, but we had planned to catch a movie at E Street Cinema afterwards, which is only a few blocks away from there and we were really craving sushi. This low-key spot had a small menu of Japanese cuisine, but the real attraction is the fresh sushi and reasonable prices. Closest Metro is McPherson Square.

The service was typical and the food tasty. Sake was on the menu and Keith had the cold, which came in a cute mini canter with a hole to put ice in. The yakitori appetizer was better than at most places, however the tempura was a little lacking. I wanted to order the green tea mochi ice cream for dessert, but the waitress gave us our check as soon as she cleared our plates. Keith insisted I order it, but since we had to catch the movie, I let it pass. Although the food was good, this place did not stand out from any other sushi place, so I might not go out of my way to come here again.

What I ate:

Yakitori
Chicken skewers with scallions and teriyaki sauce

Vegetable Tempura

California Roll

Spicy Tuna Roll

Salmon and Avocado Roll

Shrimp Tempura Roll

Hawaiian Roll
Spicy yellowtail with tempura crunchies
