Located in the former Montmarte space, Newland is "convergance of both where I’ve been and where I’m going", according to Chef Markert and features a tasting menu that tells the story of the pivotal points in his path as a chef. La Collina

Ambar

"Where southeastern Europe meets Southeast DC," Ambar is a Serbian-owned restaurant along the bustling Barracks Row that features Balkan inspired dishes emphasizing meats and cheeses. The name refers to a Balkan building used to dry maize. With a desire to introduce DC to cutting edge Balkan cuisine, proprietor Ivan Iricanin has created a dining space that will delight and indulge the senses. Little Pearl

Bombay Street Food 2

Bombay Street Food 2 is Asad Sheikh’s most glorious contribution to the culture of his native land, Bombay (Mumbai), and the bright and vibrant flavors of India. Phing Tham

Phing Tham is a new Southeast Asian restaurant from the Pesce team that offers seafood, chargrilled-meats, and 'unapologetically spicy' salads and curries. 'Phing' is the traditional grilling method. Emilie's

Sona Creamery & Wine Bar

Founded in 2013, by Conan & Genevieve O'Sullivan, Sona Creamery and Wine Bar is the District's only onsite creamery. Sharing a passion for great cheese and wine as they present opportunities for tastings and to learn in the cafe through cheese and wine classes and exclusive events, Sona means “happy” in Irish. Acqua al 2

Located directly across the street from the historic Eastern Market, this is the third Acqua al 2 to open (first in Florence, Italy and second in Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, CA). This fine dining Italian restaurant is a welcomed new edition to the neighborhood and whose anticipated opening created hyper buzz around town and overbooked nights. Since their opening in 2010, we have returned for various special occasions and Acqua al 2 remains one of my favorite restaurants in DC. Closest Metro is Eastern Market. 

Jimmy T's Place

The Washington Post first reported: "You wouldn't expect to find an honest-to-goodness greasy spoon just five blocks east of the Capitol, but that's what makes Jimmy T's Place such a gem. Settle in at a chrome stool and banter with the line cook while your eggs and bacon sizzle on the flat-top grill. As soon as your diner-quality coffee shows up (in a random mug from a mismatched collection), you'll start to feel like a regular. Located in a rowhouse at 5th and East Capitol streets, Jimmy T's looks like it hasn't changed much since its signs advertising 65-cent ham-and-egg breakfasts were accurate."  Closest Metro is Eastern Market.

Broodjes & Bier

Broodjes & Bier is a Dutch-inspired sandwich start-up based in Capitol Hill, currently offered prepackaged sandwiches on the shelves at The Silver Spork. On September 20, 2013, Broodjes & Bier held an inaugural sandwich and bier extravaganza: Prost! A Sandwich & Bier Pop-Up! in order to "bring the canal side cafes of Amsterdam to the sun-drenched patios of Capitol Hill."  Closest Metro is Eastern Market.

District Taco

"In 2009, two neighbors got together over some homemade chips, salsa and guacamole and decided to launch District Taco as a food truck. District Taco has since grown and now operates multiple locations in and around Washington DC."   Serving quality Mexican (Yucatan style) food that is fresh, simple and healthy, the restaurant's trademark is "Orale!" which roughly translates to "Right On!"  I tried the newest location in Capitol Hill.  Closest Metro is Eastern Market.

Hill's Kitchen Cooking Class

Hill’s Kitchen is an independent gourmet kitchenware store that opened in May 2008 adjacent to the Eastern Market Metro station. The store occupies a renovated and extended townhouse built in 1884 in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C.  In addition to fine kitchen products, a knowledgeable staff, and excellent service, classes and demonstrations are available upstairs.

Sūna

Sūna, a "fine-dining without the fuss" restaurant that's "inspired by nature," is the newest concept from Chef Johnny Spero of Komi and Toki Underground and Chef Ari Gejdenson of Acqua al 2.  The name is Latvian for "moss," a nice nod to Spero’s Latvian grandmother. The food, however, strikes modern American and eclectic flavors, rather than anything reminiscent of the Baltic region by serving inventive, seasonal cuisine combining modern and classic techniques.  Closest Metro is Eastern Market.

We love walking to Eastern Market on the weekends.  In addition to stocking up on essentials from inside, we often check out the fresh produce from the various vendors outside.  Much of the produce sold at Eastern Market is grown in rural counties in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Closest Metro is Eastern Market.
