Stoneground Kitchen

Stoneground Kitchen is located downtown in a second-story loft overlooking the architecturally acclaimed Salt Lake City Public Library.  The website describes: "Since opening in 2000, owner Bob McCarthy has been cooking up a dining experience that’s warm, welcoming and firmly planted in his Irish-Italian roots. He takes a simple approach to serving delicious food: always fresh and house-made."  The menu features rustic Italian recipes, thin crust pizzas, and fresh pastas.

From Scratch

From Scratch is a new restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City that recently took home awards for Best Burger 2014 and Best Pizza 2014 from some local publications. An Austrian flour mill is located behind a barn door at one end of the restaurant, which allows for many of the items made in-house. The menu features house-made pizza, pasta, soups, breads, as well as condiments such as sauces, catsup, mayonnaise, mustard, and jam. The concept is to prepare and serve high quality fresh food to customers.

The Copper Onion

The Copper Onion focuses on seasonally changing menus due to product availability, as well as any time the chefs find new and amazing ingredients to showcase.  Home-grown Utahn Chef Ryan Lowder decided to return to his hometown and apply his culinary training to Salt Lake’s rapidly expanding food scene. Chef Ryan's menu reflects his passion for working with seasonal ingredients, showcasing products from the best local farmers and purveyors, as well as international flavors reflective of his time abroad.

Settebello Pizzeria

I visited the Settebello Pizzeria in Salt Lake City, located just a few blocks east off the 400 South Exit of the I-15 freeway.  This pizzeria was highly recommended to us by a few locals, so being quite fond of pizza, JG preferred we go early on during our week-long stay in SLC.  The ambience was nothing special, but service was friendly and our food came fairly fast.

Alamexo

Alamexo serves Chef Matt Lake's modern interpretation of classic Mexican fare in a contemporary setting in downtown Salt Lake City.  I was in town for a work conference and this restaurant was close to our hotel.  Being Cinco de Mayo, we thought it was appropriate to dine here.  We did not have reservations, but went early enough that we were able to snag a great table by the corner window.
