Inspired by France’s best new restaurants, rooted in classic flavors with a modern sensibility, Le Clou is chef and owner Nicholas Stefanelli’s brasserie in The Morrow Hotel.  Closest Metro is NoMA-Gallaudet.

L'Auberge Provencale

We did a romantic getaway to a quaint bed & breakfast, L'Auberge Provencale, located in Boyce, Virginia in Shenandoah Valley. While there, we dined at La Table - the restaurant located within the Inn that highlights Provencale cuisine. Just as they do in Provence, they employ a farm to table philosophy that leads their menus and experiences.

La Bise

La Bise is a modern, bright, and colorful 21st century French restaurant located just steps from the White House. We dined inside the vibrant new interior for Summer Restaurant Week and had a memorable French meal. Closest Metro is Farragut West. 

Michele's

Michele's, named after Michelin Starred Chef Matt Baker’s late mother, is inspired by his family connections to Houston and New Orleans, and how they have impacted his approach to cooking, cuisine, and hospitality. Chef Baker uses his classical French training as a conduit to bring together the multicultural flavors of both cities. Michele’s offers an upscale New American dining experience with a French accent and international flair. Closest Metro is McPherson Square. 

Le Canard

Le Canard from chef Gabriel Rucker and his partner Andy Fortgang serves “French bar food” with an emphasis on accessibility and is the sister restaurant to the more formal, Le Pigeon, located next door. Open since 2018, Le Canard has received many accolades including Best Restaurant in Portland, Oregon - so naturally, this was on our list to dine at during our visit. 

2941 Restaurant

2941 Restaurant is a visual and culinary adventure. Every dish is a work of art at this marvelous inside the beltway oasis. Set in among luxuriously landscaped woods in a remote area of Falls Church, VA, the restaurant features elaborately designed waterfalls, Koi ponds, and fountains that one can enjoy from any seat. In January 2012, the restaurant underwent an extensive kitchen renovation and dining room refresh, the results of which are sure to appeal to guests in search of a distinctive dining retreat any night of the week. While the unparalleled water views, floor-to-ceiling windows and contemporary feel remain, the new menu features Modern American French with Mediterranean influences that still provides a wonderful gastronomical experience in a fun and approachable way.

Légende Wine Lunch @ Mirabelle

Légende Wines are from Château Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux, France - a Taub Family Wine Selections brand. For five generations, the Rothschild family has been associated with the vineyards of Bordeaux since 1868. In addition to the wines produced from their prestigious vineyards, the Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) have for many years created a range of more accessible wines for everyday drinking. I was invited to a lunch at Mirabelle with winemaker Diane Flamand, who explained the history and variations offered by the Lafite label.

Chez Fernand

Chez Fernand, founded in 1970 and located in the heart of Saint Germain des Près area is a Parisian institution. Owner Dimitri Labaye, Chef Remi Lebon, and their entire crew give this place a very friendly dining atmosphere, totally in line with the legendary neighborhood. Excellence on sourcing products, respect of French culinary traditions and simplicity are the key words to describe this restaurant where it is just good to eat and grab a part of the French cooking culture.

La Méditerranée

La Méditerranée offers maritime inspired cuisine, in which particular attention is paid to the best ingredients, and is influenced by the accents of the south. Located opposite the Théâtre de l'Odéon in Paris, this restaurant is popular with the locals in the summer who like to dine beneath the azure blue awning.  Winning the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in 2018, we enjoyed a dinner of 3 courses for 36€ per person.

Loiseau Rive Gauche

Loiseau Rive Gauche is a one star Michelin restaurant located 10 meters away from the National Assembly, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.  Boasting an elegant and cosy ambiance, the cuisine marries brilliantly tradition and modernity. A few different seasonal tasting menus are available, and for our first dinner in Paris, Kieth and I chose the 8 course meal with wine pairing for 135€ per person.

Requin

Requin at The Wharf is an upscale contemporary French concept from award-winning restaurateur Mike Isabella that offers a modern interpretation of classic French cuisine. The restaurant has a menu that creatively reworks traditional French dishes with fresh techniques, flavor profiles and presentations. A robust wine and champagne selection matches the upscale menu. Located in District Square as the only free-standing restaurant, Requin offers sweeping views of the waterfront, with patio seating available during the warmer months. Closest Metro is L'Enfant Plaza or Waterfront-SEU.

Mirabelle

Mirabelle is a contemporary celebration of the American and French table offering refined fare from James Beard Award-winning Executive Chef Frank Ruta and Pastry Chef Aggie Chin. Influenced by modern American hospitality sensibilities, Mirabelle provides an inviting and sophisticated setting perfect for dining and entertaining in the heart of DC’s bustling downtown neighborhood, just two blocks north of the White House. Convivial

Convivial, defined as "relating to or fond of feasting, drinking, and good company," is also the newest restaurant in Shaw from Chef Cedric Maupillier. Convivial brings diners to a table alive with the deep and provocative history of French cooking presented in a spirit of cheer and easy exploration. A menu of fully composed, mid-size dishes looks past both the traditional entrée and the tapas-like snack, allowing guests to assemble an individual, multi-course meal or to select a variety of dishes for everyone to share. Closest Metro is Mount Vernon Square - Convention Center.

One Pico

One Pico is an acclaimed award winning restaurant in Dublin, Ireland serving wonderful French food in luxurious surroundings. The modern classic cuisine is emphasized by innovative touches using the best of seasonal produce.  Keith chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday dinner.

Kyirisan

Kyirisan by Chef Tim Ma brings medium plates of French-Chinese fare to the ever-growing, up and coming, trendy Shaw neighborhood.  Featured in the Inaugural Michelin Guide's DC Bib Gourmand, we figured we better check out this joint quick!  Closest Metro is U Street or Shaw.

DBGB Kitchen & Bar

DBGB is Chef Daniel Boulud’s casual French-American restaurant located in CityCenterDC. Best described as "a little bit brasserie, a little bit bistro, half French, half American," DBGB serves seasonal Lyonnais-inspired cooking, seven varieties of house-made sausages, two gourmet burgers, and more for lunch and dinner seven days a week. The large, buzzy bar features a robust craft beer program and creative cocktails, in addition to an impressive but approachable international wine list.  Closest Metro is Gallery Place-Chinatown.

L'Hommage Bistro Francais

L'Hommage Bistro Francais is the newest dining concept from restaurateur Hakan Ilhan, inspired by his weekend visits to Paris while attending university in the United Kingdom.  We were recently invited to check out Executive Chef Joshua Laban Perkins’ new brunch menu with items that range in price from $7.50 to $19.50.  Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Closest Metro is Mt. Vernon Square or Gallery Place.

Marcel's

Tired of his French-Belgian restaurant in the West End being labeled old hat, Robert Wiedmaier, executive chef and owner, ordered up a fresh look for his property of 16 years, and re-opened in Fall of 2014.  Marcel's serves French-Belgian fare that is the epitome of Old World extravagance—labor-intensive and richly sauced. I knew it was the perfect elegant place to treat Keith for his birthday dinner this year.  Closet Metro is Foggy Bottom.
