La Lomita

This casual Mexican Restaurant is a local favorite is situated right along the busy Pennsylvania Avenue, only a block away from the Metro station. Serving authentic Mexican cuisine in a laid back environment, La Lomita's should not be overlooked. Closest Metro is Potomac Avenue.

September 2010: After living on the Hill for over 3 years, Keith and I have always walked past La Lomita's and never have gone in. Boy, were we missing out. Although the decor is nothing to write about, the staff is incredibly friendly and prompt with service. Also, the outdoor patio is always nice to sit and eat your meal (although be prepared for mosquitoes on those warm summer nights). We went fairly early and the place quickly filled up with regular diners. There were many typical items on the menu such as various tacos, burritos, and enchiladas in addition to house specialties such as trio of grilled meats served with black beans and rice. The complimentary chips and salsa were freshly homemade and tasty. Although I found my tacos to be mediocre, Keith thought his meats were very tender and cooked just right. With the location so close to our house, we will definitely be going back again.

May 2012:  We have returned to La Lomita's a couple times since my last write up, but felt I should give an update this time since the food seemed to be much better!  The complimentary chips and salsa were so fresh, warm, and lightly salted - I practically ate the whole basket before placing my order.  I was totally in the mood with Cinco de Mayo coming up, so we also ordered a pitcher of margaritas.  I had not noticed quesadillas on the menu before, and since they are one of my favorite dishes, I decided to give it a try.  They are also available in a smaller portion size if you wanted to sample as an appetizer.  The chicken was tender, super flavorful, and had great char from the grill.  I absolutely loved it.  You can also get them with shrimp or beef.  Keith ordered his favorite of the house grilled meats and he, too, found the meat to be even more tender and flavorful than he remembered.  It is also a large serving, so he was quite stuffed.  Overall, our meal was super delicious and totally hit the spot to satisfy our Mexican craving.
