My sister-in-law's bridal shower was held at the Inn at New Hyde Park. We were a group of about 40 women and were seated downstairs in a private room with 5 long tables. We were allowed to bring our own decorations for her red and white damask theme, which was great to add our own touch and make it extra special for the bride-to-be. While the ladies were doing our thing, the men congregated in the regular restaurant area of Brasserie 214 at enjoyed drinks and food with just the guys.
The shower menu consisted of a hot passed hors d'oeuvres, salad, choice of entree, and dessert. Also included were champagne punch, choice of red and white wines, soda, and coffee or hot tea. As everyone arrived and were mingling, the appetizers were passed around by the servers and I tasted the chicken dumplings and chicken satay. Both were very tasty. Mini crab cakes also went around, but I did not get a chance to taste one.
We started with a game of "How Well You Know the Bride" before our salads arrived. It was a fun icebreaker for all the women. The salad was a simple mix with lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Next, our entrees arrived and there was a choice between Chateaubriand, Grilled Salmon, Shrimp Oreganata, or Chicken Parmesan. The bride-to-be ordered the steak and found the meat nicely sliced and overall cooked well. I ordered the shrimp and was a little surprised to see the thick brown sauce on top. Supposedly it was a lobster cream sauce, and while it added some flavor, the shrimp themselves were small. After, we handed out the "Bridal Bingo" cards to each table and my sister-in-law opened up all of her gifts. We also brought our own special cake, but the shower menu comes with dessert choice of assorted cookies or ice cream. We chose the ice cream to pair with the delicious red velvet cake. All in all, it was a very nice venue to hold a special event. The staff was very attentive and helped move the timeline along smoothly. Everyone enjoyed themselves and commented on how nice and grand the Inn at New Hyde Park is.
