Reader Question: Casual Birthday Celebration
With the nicer weather finally upon us, now is the great time to dine out with groups, especially for birthday celebrations. My latest question came from a reader looking for just that - where to have moderately priced meals with great drinks, and music in the background. Here is a quick response:
"Hi Micky. I am looking for suggestions for a Friday night Birthday celebration with friends. I am looking for moderately priced american meals (hamburgers, wings) with great drinks. Music in the background (live or speakers) would be a plus. I prefer the H street or 7th street area, [as] Adams Morgan and U street can get crowded. Thank you in advance, Treva"
Thanks for reaching out, Treva! I am not sure if you mean H St NE or the Chinatown area (since you also list 7th St). But to start, there are many great casual American-fare places along H St NE, also known as Atlas District. My favorites include The Big Board for burgers, Liberty Tree for pizza, and Smith Commons for good food and drinks. Granville Moore's is great for beer and mussels, and Sticky Rice or Toki Underground are hot for sushi and ramen. Then move down and do your own bar crawl at Little Miss Whiskey's, Rock N Roll Hotel, or H Street Country Club (has mini golf and skeeball too).
For the Chinatown area: Cuba Libre has fun food and a great selection of rum drinks. Of course, can't go wrong with Matchbox - great sliders and wood fired pizza and they handle groups pretty well. For something a bit more fusion try Zengo - they have great cocktails too.
Send me a question and I might feature it here on What Micky Eats.
