Anna Maria Donuts

Anna Maria Donuts is the only donut shop on the island and features fresh cake donuts that are topped to order.  Fill out a paper form with your choices, stand in line to pay and submit your form, then watch as they prepare your order at the 'Donut Bar'.  Fresh roasted, fresh ground and fresh brewed coffee is also available.  Prices are very reasonable.  Stop by to pick up some donuts for breakfast before hitting the beach!

Start out with a vanilla cake donut, then you pick your icing from 4 choices and a topping from 14 choices.  Watch them prepare it at the 'Donut Bar'.  Here are pictures I snapped as they were making the orders:

The cake donuts are nothing special, but it is fun to be able to pick and choose your different toppings.  Special flavors are featured monthly - this time a Sriracha donut, made with vanilla glaze and then topped with squirts of the spicy red chili sauce.  We did not venture that way, and decided to stick to the classics.  We ordered a half dozen:

My favorites were the chocolate glaze with peanut butter drizzle and the classic vanilla glaze with cinnamon sugar.  We thought the bacon topping would be good for breakfast, and it was.  And being in Florida, we just had to get the Key Lime Pie flavor.  The lime glaze drizzle on top was excellent.
