Poppo's Taqueria

Poppo's Taqueria on Anna Maria Island, FL delivers authentic Mission style Mexican food using well sourced ingredients, like organic produce and antibiotic/hormone free meats, at a reasonable price. With a philosophy of "SLOW FOOD, FAST!", this little taqueria is serving some quality ingredients with humble attitude and laid-back beachy style.


We finally got a full day of sun and headed to the beach first thing on the morning to catch some rays.  Soon, we were hungry for lunch and Keith offered to go into town to pick up lunch.  We had seen Poppo's next door to Anna Maria Donuts the other day, and remembered we wanted to check it out.  So going there for lunch was the perfect idea.  The set up is similar to Chipotle, or other fast-casual places where you place your order at the bar, and they prepare it in front of you.  There are options for slight customization, but mostly they have set menu choices of tacos, burritos, bowls, or quesadillas.

I started with a Poppo's Chicken Taco with honey-lime slaw, pico de gallo, feta cheese, and hot sauce on a blend corn and flour tortilla.  The filling was generous and very fresh.  I really enjoyed this taco and could easily have eaten another.  Instead, I tried the Black Bean Quesadilla filled with black beans, pico de gallo, and feta cheese.  The flavor combinations were very classic and again, the ingredients fresh.  Keith ate a couple Classic Tacos made with carnitas, red onion, cilantro, hot sauce and a lime wedge on a corn tortilla.  He too, enjoyed the tacos and we felt somewhat like we ate a 'healthy' lunch.  Very reminiscent of Californian-style fare, and perfect for the beach.
