Pizza, Parts, & Service

Pizza, Parts, & Service is brought to us by the Taylor Gourmet team in the former Steak & Ice location on H St NE.  Whole pizzas and pizzas by the slice are offered with toppings ranging from the traditional (pepperoni) to the New York-friendly (meatball) to the more unusual (broccoli rabe). There are also garlic knots, wings, calzones and salads - all of which can also be delivered if within the radius marked off by the US Capitol to the DC Armory between New York Avenue and East Capitol Street. Closest Metro is Union Station.

Keith and I stopped by to pick up a few slices to go.  We got a couple slices of plain cheese, and Keith also got a slice of Handmade Meatballs topped with mozzarella, ricotta, pecorino romano, and chili flakes.  The sauce is the usual key indicator as to whether I will like a new pizza place or not.  Second is the cheese ratio.  While I found the sauce a tad different than other New York-style variations, it was not bad.  It was less sweet than some, and had a bit more acidic bite.  The cheese ratio was a bit on the skimpy side, as I am used to the gooey stringiness that ensues when you take a first bite, but alas there was none.

Additionally, I ate the Spinach Calzone filled with spinach, artichoke hearts, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, fontina, mozzarella, and ricotta.  This had a good vegetable to cheese ratio and actually had a bit of red pepper flakes in it.  It was served with a small side cup of tomato sauce.  The calzone was good, but I did not care for the whole large pieces of garlic that studded the pocket.

The restaurant recycled some decor from Steak & Ice, such as the manhole covers, with a new paint job and a few added industrial items.  The layout seems to be a little more roomy with tables to sit at towards the front entrance, as opposed to in the far back.  Yet, it appears that their delivery service (or call ahead and come pick up) is more popular than dining in.
