Baby Wale

Baby Wale is an Industrial-style pub with a lengthy bar & a menu built on sandwiches & larger American plates. Closest Metro is Convention Center-Mt. Vernon Square.

We have stopped in here for drinks before, but on this night we were hungry and this was the closet spot to duck into to escape the rain.  We sat at the bar and our server was very friendly and attentive.

We ordered the Lobster Bisque served with rustic bread.  Since it was 50 degrees out, I wanted something warm and comforting.  The soup was overly salty and not that special.  I liked the bread, though.

For something on the lighter side, we tried the Asparagus Salad with a poached egg, frisee, and shallot vinaigrette.  This salad was seasonal, but a bit bland.

For something a bit more substantial I ordered the Squash Blossom Pupusas stuffed with squash blossom and mozzarella, topped with Salvadorian slaw.  Yuck.  Yes, I wrote it - Yuck.  I did not like this dish at all.  The pupusa itself was soggy and the slaw was so sour and unsettling.  What a waste.

Keith ordered the Meatball Casserole made with lamb, antelope, and beef, baked in tomato sauce, and topped with mozzarella.  This dish was flavorful and more satisfying than the others.

I was disappointed with the food at Baby Wale, though the ambience is fun and inviting with great music, plentiful bar seating, and friendly staff.  Net time, visit for pre-dinner drinks only and move elsewhere for your meal.
