As soon as we arrived in Maui, we drove straight to Star Noodle. We had made reservations and planned to check-in to the hotel first and freshen up, but with some travel delays we had no time to stop and went straight away. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails to relax my nerves and get into island vibes. Chai-Rum-Tea-Ni made with coconut milk, honey, Masala chai, Koloa Spiced Rum, cardamom. It was strong but tasty.
To share, we started with the Eggplant tossed in Su Miso sauce and topped with sesame seeds and fried garlic. It was delicious.
Keith also wanted to try the Adobo Pork Ribs with garlic, black pepper, vinegar, and shoyu. Tey were plentiful and very porky.
I was craving and ordered the Local Saimin. I grew up on these noodles served in a Wafu dashi broth with spam, kamboko (fish cake), soft boiled egg and scallions. They really hit the spot and were perfect after our long flight.
Keith ordered the Star Noodle Udon. A thicker noodle served in a rich pork broth with roasted pork belly and scallions. It was very comforting.
Overall, we had a great first meal in Maui and am glad we persevered after our long flight to dine out. The ambience was great being outside and right near the water, and the service was friendly and welcoming.
