On this frigid day before the snowstorm, we walked over to Barracks Row to check out the newly opened ramen shop. The space was large and decorated with bright neon lights and various Godzilla figurines around the bar. Japanese pop music was playing, and I felt like we were in some kitschy bar in Tokyo.
To start, we tried the Tako Corn Dog - pieces of octopus covered in corn dog battered and lightly fried, topped with takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes, and nori. It was very tasty!
Keith ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen which was a pork broth base with thick noodles, cabbage, bean sprouts, scallion, quail eggs, pork shoulder chasu with a spicy paste that made the soup a dark red when all mixed together. He loved the flavor and the soup warmed him up.
I ordered the Kaiju Chicken Ramen which was a rich chicken broth base with thin noodles, bamboo shoots, scallion, and soy marinated egg, topped with a slow cooked chicken leg and nori. Wow! Stunning and very comforting. For those who like a little more kick, this comes in the spicy version too.
Overall, the vibe was fun and inviting. Service was attentive and fast. The menu had a great variety for those that like beef, pork, chicken, or vegan options. Various sakes are also available.
