What Micky Eats...

Summary: Only 3 blocks from the White House and across the street from the Warner Theatre, Chef Geoff's Downtown happily serves delicious contemporary American Cuisine in the heart of the city. Sister to his other two restaurants in DC, Chef Geoff’s Downtown is a favorite for happy hour as it offers a decent selection of beer and wine and has plentiful seating from the dining area to the bar to the large covered patio. Closest Metro is Federal Triangle.

August 2008: With a casual sophistication, the restaurant has been featured in local papers and news programs. Enjoy half priced bottles of wine every Monday. We tried this spot during Restaurant Week and joins the list as one of my favorites. Several items on the menu caught my eye, so I am eager to dine here again soon!

UPDATE: I went back to Chef Geoff's Downtown for a nice lunch out with my work colleagues. We arrived before the lunch rush, so were seated right away. The menu had many options that appealed to everyone. Fresh bread was served on the table along with overflowing glasses of water. The ingredients were fresh and the portions seemed generous for lunch - a few of my lunch mates did not finish and boxed up the leftovers. The place filled up fast and was buzzing by the time we left. I really enjoyed my tuna burger and am glad I ordered the side salad with it (although the sweet potato fries looked good!). Others in the group ordered the turkey wrap, burger, pizza, hummus platter, and the Korean fried chicken special - and all seemed pleased with their choices. Chef Geoff has added an Italian restaurant to his collection, and I am slightly tempted to check that place out as well.

What I ate:

Asian Tuna Burger
with ginger, cucumber, and wasabi mayonnaise
served with champagne greens

Chilled Melon Soup with Crab and Prosciutto

Day Boat Scallops with Mushroom-Asparagus Risotto
With Truffle Oil and White Balsamic Reduction

Lemon-Raspberry Trifle
Layers of pound cake, lemon cream, fresh raspberries, and vanilla ice cream

Plus Keith ate:

Jerk Chicken Skewers
with Sambal Aioli

Cuban Salmon with Crispy Shrimp
Served with red beans and rice, a plantain chip, and Mojito vinaigrette

Tres Leches Cake
With crème anglais and strawberry coulis
