Summary: Central is Chef Michel Richard’s 2008 James Beard Award winning restaurant in Washington, DC. Featuring traditional American cuisine with a French flair, Central offers a contemporary atmosphere in a convenient setting. The dining room is decorated in earth-toned hues and clean lines with a brilliant combination of light woods, marble and glass. Surprising details such as a see-through meat locker in the corner, cut glass enclosed wine cellars each lit with its own color, and a smiling portrait of Michel Richard himself in a striking shade of magenta greet you at every turn. The atmosphere inspires a warmhearted vibe and encourages you to relax and make yourself comfortable. Closest Metro Station is Federal Triangle.

Keith took me here for a belated birthday dinner celebration. A little busier than I expected for a Sunday night, but we were seated right away near the serving window. It was neat to be close to the kitchen and see the many sous chefs in action. Service was pretty quick and the menu featured many hearty meals at reasonable prices. Our meal was good and appetizing, but we were going in with such high expectations that we were not blown away. My fish was cooked perfectly and plated beautifully with skin and tail on. Also, I got a free dessert for my birthday - nice touch. Bottom line – don’t go to Central with any preconceived notions and you’ll enjoy yourself just fine.

What I ate:

Mushroom Pearl Pasta Risotto

Loup de Mer with Mushrooms

Sea bass deboned and butterflied served with mushrooms and mixed green salad

Michel’s Chocolate Mousse
