Location: Archives/Navy Memorial

Total Rating: 3.95
Food: 4, Price: 3, Service: 4, Ambience: 5, Accessibility: 5

Summary: Conveniently located downtown, 701 has the warmth and charm of a private club and a picturesque setting that give guests a memorable dining experience. Menus reflect an inventive approach to contemporary continental cuisine and guests may enjoy live jazz while dining. Closest Metro is Archives/Navy Memorial.

We went to 701 to celebrate New Year's Eve - the decor was festive with balloons and streamers in addition to the contemporary soothing color schemes of blues and browns. We had a later seating so as to enjoy the evening and were seated fairly close to the live jazz band, making it difficult to hear at times, but it kept the mood up. Our server was very nice and timed out the 4 course prixe fixed meal perfectly so that we finished our dessert just a few minutes before the clock struck midnight. The price tag also came with a glass of champagne to toast. When asked if they had vegetarian options, they did not seem to know right away and insisted that some options on the menu were already vegetarian. But I did not like what he offered as a substitution for the main course (he just said "pasta"), so I ventured out and ordered the duck. My mistake - I am not ready for that level just yet. But I enjoyed my halibut and Keith, of course, loved his steak. I may come back to 701 for a regular dinner. Location is super convenient as it is directly off the metro stop. Overall the meal was pretty good and I enjoyed myself at 701. Happy New Year!!!
