Restaurant: Leilani's Cafe

Location: San Diego, CA - Pacific Beach

Total Rating: 3.75
Food: 4, Price: 4, Service: 3, Ambience: 3, Accessibility: 3

Summary:
This local-hole-in-the-wall-mom-and-pop joint serves Hawaiian style food along with casual breakfast and lunch specials. Located in the residential area of Pacific Beach, Leilani's is a local favorite and hidden gem.

We were really craving plate lunch and after a full morning at the Wild Animal Park, Keith found this place online. We found it and were surprised by how small it was in size as well as menu options. Nonetheless, I ordered the "Da Kine" plate lunch and Keith got the beef. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the fresh air. It was not the best plate lunch I have had, but it was good enough to satisfy my craving. In all honesty though, I would recommend the chain L&L Drive-In to someone looking for authentic Hawaiian style grub.

What I ate:

Da Kine Hawaiian Plate
terriyaki chicken with white rice and macaroni salad

Plus Keith ate:
Beef Hawaiian Plate
bbq beef with white rice and macaroni salad

  1. L&L is far from being authentic Hawaiian style grub. I can tell you never had authentic Hawaiian Grub.
terriyaki chicken with white rice and macaroni salad is not Hawaiian Nothing Hawaiian about this plate. LOL Anything thats called Teriyaki is Japanese. LOL.

  2. Growing up in Hawaii, I am very familiar with "plate lunch" and I agree it may not be authentic Hawaiian cuisine, but it is "local Hawaiian-style grub". Many locals know the L&L chain, and for those of us who are far from the islands, IMO it satisfies the craving better than Leilani's did.
