Pitango Gelato

July 2011: On this sweltering hot summer day in the city, I made a detour to Pitango on my way home from work. There was a line out the door, but the smart people soon moved it indoors to snake around while still being in AC. There are two sizes - the regular which allows up to two flavors or the large which allows up to three flavors. The regular was enough for me to cool down. I appreciate the non-dairy options and almost prefer those to the traditional creamy gelatos. The staff is friendly and kept the line moving quickly. Although a little pricey, the flavors are intense and refreshing. If you are looking for a more fancy treat alternative to ice cream, Pitango Gelato is the place to visit.

November 2011: I finally ventured to the Pitango Gelato in Eastern Market and the shop is just as non-descript, yet offers the same delicious flavors. More seating is available right outside on benches - great for people watching. The staff was just as courteous as the Penn Quarter location, and this spot may become my go-to due to its closer proximity to me. Keith and I each enjoyed our own regular cup of duo flavors - with me favoring the fruitier sorbettos, while Keith indulges in the creamier gelatos. All options a sweet delight.
