The view from our booth. |
Although awkward at first, Keith and I decided to just go with the flow since we saw the food was highly rated here and Keith was really craving a nice steak. Our server was an Eastern European fellow casually dressed, yet very courteous and hospitable. He checked up on us at the appropriate times and seemed happy to hear that we did not have the Groupon deal, but rather would be ordering a la carte. I ordered a glass of Riesling, while Keith ordered a beer. We looked over the menu and noticed the prices were a little higher than average, but not unusual for a fancy steakhouse. We were presented with an amuse of caprese salad, which was a nice pre-appetizer since I sort of wanted to start with a salad, but Keith convinced me to share the Oysters Rockefeller. The oysters were gigantic and tasty, and were presented flambéed, which I have never seen before. A very sexy starter and fitting for the ambience.
For my main, I chose the Chicken Breast Piccata, which were two large breasts in a lemon caper sauce, served with a garlic potato puree and spinach and beet greens. The generous portion of chicken was very moist and tender - probably the best chicken I've had out at a restaurant. I was happily surprised. I had plenty of food so gave more than half of my sides to Keith who had ordered a Filet Mignon. His steak came with a piece of bone marrow and a peppercorn cognac sauce that he was not impressed by. In addition, he ordered a side of marinated mushrooms that were alright, but I've had better at steakhouses. We were too full to order dessert, but as we left the server escorted us out, said thank you to Keith in Polish, and shook our hands. A very hospitable touch. Overall, the food at CY Steak is above average, the prices on the high side, but the service and ambience are different than what you'd get at other restaurants. CY Steak would be a great place to go with a group for a fun night out, as well as a spot worthy for young couples looking to spice things up a bit.
