San Francisco Fish Company, located in the historic Ferry Building since January 2004, offers a wide selection of beautifully displayed raw fish from around the world. The offerings depend on the season, fishing restrictions, the weather, and other variables that contribute to what is available. Choose from items as raw product, prepared and ready to cook at home, prepared and ready to eat, or cooked to order. San Francisco Fish Company offers lunch seven days a week. The
menu ranges from sushi to hot fish sandwiches to crab cakes and other seasonal products. They also have a wide range of salads and hot soups.
I just arrived in San Francisco and as usual with a day full of travel, I was starving. Keith ended his conference early and met up with me. We walked to the Embarcadero area and wandered into the old Ferry Building. I was surprised to see many high end "fancy food" stalls set up. Olive oils, cheeses, breads, pastries, coffees, and meats. We walked around a bit before seeing the San Francisco Fish Company. I noticed their chalkboard with the day's specials out front, as well as their fresh oysters set up so we stopped in here to grab something to eat. We ordered an
Oyster Po Boy Sandwich and the
Clam Strip and Chips to go. It was nice and sunny outside, so we took our food to sit out on the marina/pier with a view of the Bay Bridge. The sandwich was not a traditional po boy, as it was just on a round bun. Yet, the oysters were large and creamy. The clam strips were overly fried and tasted almost frozen to me, but the portion was very large. It was good enough to get something in my stomach and acclimate me to the West Coast schedule. I enjoyed the Ferry Building with all its shops and booths and noticed they have an even bigger selection of vendors during the weekend.
