Come eat with Micky! For the second year in a row, I am an ambassador for Take a Bite Out of Breast Cancer, a Pink Jams event that is an outreach and fundraising campaign focusing on educating Washington, DC area residents about the importance of early detection and breast cancer awareness.
Did you know that Washington, DC has the highest breast cancer death rate for women in the United States? Many of those deaths are due to late diagnosis, and could have possibly been avoided through early detection and an understanding of risk factors. For the entire month of October, chefs and restaurateurs commit their establishments to helping us in our mission – reaching tens of thousands of men and women in our area. For one day, a week, or the entire month, participating restaurants also generously donate a portion of their food and beverage sales so that we can continue our work to save lives.
Join me and Mary of Girl Meets Food for dinner on October 2nd at Hank's Oyster Bar in Capitol Hill and "take a bite" out of breast cancer! Check out the Facebook e-vite and help support - 25% of all dinner and liquor sales will go towards this important cause. If you can't make it to the Capitol Hill location, then the Dupont Circle and Old Town Alexandria location are participating too. If you can't make it on October 2nd, Hank's is also repeating the event at all three locations on October 3rd. So come out and sip & slurp with us! Menu items that stand out to me include: griddled octopus, lobster roll, and of course oysters.
