Bayside Restaurant

Set right on the shores of Anse des Pitons, the Bayside Restaurant in St. Lucia is an idyllic destination for Caribbean sunset views and perfectly mixed cocktails. One of the most popular Soufriere bars along Sugar Beach, Bayside serves a relaxed beach menu under the almond trees, with a range of selections including pizza baked in a wood-fired oven and other international favorites.

We spent the day at Sugar Beach, and enjoyed snorkeling in the clear water, relaxing in the sun, and soaking up the amazing views of the Pitons.  We took a break from the sun and had lunch at the Bayside Restaurant.  Though we were not guests of the Viceroy Resort, it was not an issue and we were seated at a lovely table where I could feel the tropical breeze and watch the private boats come in.

I was hungry, but wanted something light so I decided on the Vegetarian Sandwich.  It was a large portion on grilled bread stuffed with grilled eggplant, red peppers, tomato, and mozzarella.  A small bag of fries and lightly pickled beet and carrot salad accompanied my sandwich.  The sandwich was tasty and filled me up.  Keith ordered a bowl of Gazpacho to start.  The chilled tomato soup was bright and zingy with chunks of seafood (shrimp and crab?).  He also ordered a Caribbean specialty - Fish Roti.  This wrap is customarily stuffed with a savory curried stew-like filling and is very popular throughout the West Indies.  Keith really enjoyed the fish and potatoes that were in his version.

Overall, the prices at Bayside were pretty upscale for beach fare, but the location is worth it.  We would have liked to have ordered some daiquiris as 'dessert' but were pretty stuffed from the large portions and I wanted to get back in the ocean quick, so didn't want to overdo it.  Bayside was a nice respite from the day of sun to have lunch.
