Alma Cocina

Alma Cocina (Soul Kitchen) brings a new approach to contemporary Latin and Mexican cuisine and a whole lot of spice to the heart of downtown Atlanta. The traditional regional flavors are bright, fresh and vibrant in mouthwatering dishes that feel familiar yet new and exciting.

I was in Atlanta for a work conference, and one night decided to head over toward Peachtree Street where many restaurants are located.  We checked out Alma Cocina, and it was very loud and swanky inside with contemporary decor and a buzzing atmosphere.  Many items on the menu intrigued me.  I settled on the Fried Avocado Tacos with crispy queso cotija, poblano pesto, and roasted tomato.  Three tacos came in corn tortillas with a side of black beans and cilantro rice.  The fried cheese added the much needed salt to the tacos.  The poblano pesto had some kick when tasted alone, but married the avocado and tomatoes well.  The rice and beans were very flavorful too.  Overall, I enjoyed this generous dish and appreciated the creative meld of traditional and modern Mexican flavors.
