Max's Coal Oven Pizza

Since 2009, Max's Coal Oven Pizzeria has offered authentic, New York style pizza, classic salads, pastas, Italian sandwiches, signature coal oven wings and freshly made desserts. One of the restaurant's signature features is that they have the only genuine coal-burning oven in Georgia, enabling them to serve perfectly crisp pizzas, and create a unique taste and texture that has been a hallmark of New York City pizzerias for more than a century.

We had tried three times to dine at Max's, but the first two times the restaurant was booked for private events.  Finally, on the third try we were able to get a table.  Boasting "New York style pizza", I was curious and skeptical, so chose a classic 12 inch Margherita pizza. Topped with fresh mozzarella, crushed tomato, basil, and EVOO the flavor was typical, yet I did not care for the crust.  Mine was a bit underdone on the edges and then overly burnt in the middles.  Seems like the coal oven's temperature is not even throughout.  Nevertheless, the size was enough for me to finish and satisfied my craving for pizza on this rainy and windy night.
