This fast casual joint is located in our beloved Barracks Row neighborhood. Small and nothing fancy inside, you order at the counter, take your number, find a seat, and when the food is ready they bring it to you. Using traditional Korean metal bowls and serve ware, the fresh ingredients shine and the food speaks for itself. Their modern interpretation of classic Chinese and Korean dishes are approachable without compromising authenticity.
First to come out was the Wok Blistered Chinese Broccoli topped with toasted sesame oil, crispy garlic. The flavors were good, but Keith wanted more of the actual broccoli tops, instead of all the chopped up stems.
Keith filled up on the Wagshal's Chopped Brisket served over rice with furikake butter and topped with a soy brined soft egg. Mixed all up, this dish was filling and also quality in taste and ingredients.
I ordered the Vegetarian Stir Fried Chewy Rice Cakes with bean sprouts, baby carrots, and sweet soy. I really liked this dish - it was salty with a hint of sweetness. A version with beef bulgogi is also available.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere, but felt a bit pressured to leave as soon as we finished; no time to linger. There are a few other vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu that were appealing. I hope to check out one of the After Dark Series soon -- where they invite other chefs for a special collaborative evening of fun dishes and drinks.
