Helena's Hawaiian Food

Over the past 64 years Helena's Hawaiian Food has been serving the local community quality Hawaiian cuisine. In 2000, the James Beard Foundation awarded Helena's Hawaiian Food the Regional Classic Award.  Immediately after picking up a rental car at the airport after arriving in from Maui, we drove straight to Helena's for lunch.  Reservations are not accepted, so you just have to wait in line - first come, first served.

We ordered Menu B featuring Kalua Pig and Short Ribs Pipikaula Style.  It comes with choice of rice or poi (we chose rice).  The shredded pork was delicious and Keith loved the short ribs.

We also ordered a small side of macaroni saladPoke (Ahi) and the Fried Butterfish Collar.  All were authentic and tasty.

Lastly we enjoyed the complimentary Haupia - a coconut jello dessert.

Overall, once we were seated (about a 40 minute wait), we ordered, ate, and were out -- pretty efficient.  If you are looking for authentic Hawaiian food without going to a luau, check out Helena's.
