Deaverdura is an easygoing corner restaurant in a colorful space dishing up traditional Caribbean meals. Located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, be prepared to queue up in line outside while waiting for a table. We ate here for lunch on our first full day of exploring the city.
The wait time was about 20 minutes and not that bad at all. We were seated at the bar, which worked out quite well. This restaurant appears to be popular with the food tours, and there was a large group there at the same time as us - most likely why the wait times. Nevertheless, it was easy to order straight from the bar tender who rattled off the daily dishes available. There is also a chalkboard in the main dining room that lists the daily menu.
Many items sounded good, but I went with the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce with sweet plantains. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. The garlic sauce was not too overpowering and the plantains were not too sweet. I liked this dish very much.
Keith ordered the Churrasco Steak with white rice and beans. It was cooked expertly and seasoned with lots of fresh herbs. It must be noted that you have your choice of sides for each dish, and we were both happy with our selections.
