Iguanas Cocina Puertorriqueña

Located at the Club House overlooking the golf courses at the Wyndam Grand Rio, Iguanas Cocina Puertorriqueña serves up some of the island’s best Puerto Rican flavors.  For our final dinner on the island, we took the free 5-munite shuttle over right before sunset.

We shared a couple appetizers to start.  The Queso con Guayaba - fried local cheese served with guava sauce was such a tasty bite.  I loved the mix of salty and sweet.  We also ate Croquetas de Jamon - Black Forrest smoked ham croquettes with sun-dried tomatoes and aioli.  Both of these would be a great snack with a cold beer after an afternoon on the golf course as well as a start to a nice evening meal, such as we had.

For my main course, I ordered the Rio Mar Arroz con Pollo - traditional chicken rice with Creole pork essence pink beans, avocado mousse and sweet plantains.  This dish was so flavorful and absolutely delicious.  It was a generous portion and probably the best dish I ate in Puerto Rico.

Keith ordered another famous dish - Iguanas Mofongo.  This Puerto Rican dish is made with fried plantains that are mashed with salt, garlic, broth, and olive oil in a wooden pilón that is then filled with either shrimp, vegetables, chicken, or beef.  Keith chose to have with Creole chicken.  The presentation was impactful in a beautiful stoneware pot and a large plantain chip on top.

All in all we had a lovely meal with great service and wonderful food.  We were happy to end with some traditional Puerto Rican fare.
