Princesa Cocina Cultura

Inspired by 6 different cookbooks dating back to 1859-1950 and family recipes, Princesa Cocina Cultura is the only restaurant in Old San Juan where you'll be surrounded by trees and vegetation that make you feel the magic of the story behind the place.  After exploring the nearby fort and castle, we stopped here for lunch.

We wanted to sit outside, but they were preparing for a special event that evening, so we sat inside.  It wasn't so bad, as it was cooler inside and still had trees and a nice ambience.  Keith ordered a local beer to drink, Beyond the Beach "Ocean" - a Blood Orange Blond Ale from Isla Verde, Puerto Rico.  He found it very tasty and refreshing.

As an appetizer, Keith also ate the Cassava and "Ropa Vieja" Baskets.  Since it was beef, I couldn't eat any but Keith stated they were very flavorful.

For my main dish, I ate the Firewood Roasted Half Chicken with Mamposteao Rice - a delicious mix of rice with beans, vegetables, and bacon.  The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy, and had wonderful wood flavor.  I also loved the rice.

Keith ordered the Fresh Catch of the Day - today it was Red Snapper - firewood roasted whole and served with tostones.  Again, his fish had excellent smoky flavor from the wood and the tostones were so good!

Service was courteous, attentive, and the prices were very reasonable compared to other restaurants we'd been to in Old San Juan.  We enjoyed our meal very much and I highly recommend this restaurant for all visitors.  Reservations are available online.
