Summary: Replacing Bread and Chocolate, Le Pain Quotidien is the newest bakery/pastry cafe in the trendy Eastern Market area - right on prime real estate of Pennsylvania Ave. Although a chain, this cute spot offers mostly all organic items on the menu, which features breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Closest Metro is Eastern Market.
Using European customs, such as a communal table, Le Pain Quotidien is a great place to meet friends, break bread and linger for a while. The outdoor patio seating is prime for people watching on a lovely spring day. The organic items increase the prices, but that is to be expected. The food was fresh yet lacked flavor. Even though they are trying to be health concious (calorie count listed for each item on the menu), a little seasoning can go a long way. Also, the portion size of some items were too small for the price, such as the waffle and boiled eggs. I went to breakfast for my first visit here and it was ok. I would come back again to try the lunch or dinner menu, especially for the convenient location.
