Crumbs Bake Shop

Crumbs Bake Shops are inspired by old-time candy shops and are warm and inviting with wood cases, marble counters and wall to wall treats. Their motto is "A place where memories bring joy in celebrating the simple things in every day life." The menu is an irresistible blend of comfort-oriented classics and elegant baked goods, but the specialty of the house is the Crumbs Signature size cupcakes. With more than 50 varieties baked fresh daily and a new cupcake of the week every Monday, each Crumbs Bake Shop is an oasis of wall to wall deliciousness. There are 5 locations in DC and one in Clarendon, VA.

Keith stopped by the Clarendon location to pick up some cupcake treats to bring home.  He used the coupons that Johnna gave us and was able to get one free with the purchase of one.  He chose his favorite: peanut butter cup and one of my favorites: carrot cake.  Crumbs' cupcakes come in three different sizes, but even the classic are larger than most other locations and topped with various "crumbs" - peanuts and chocolate chips on his and walnuts on mine.  The carrot cake itself is chunky with raisins and all kinds of goodies, but a little dry.  Keith's chocolate cake was even more dry, but the icing was not as sweet and had a nice balance.  There was a little extra filling in the middle with icing, so that helped with the dryness of the cake.  Overall both were nice quality cupcakes compared to other popular chains in the area.
