Lobster Shanty

Lobster Shanty is conveniently located on Rt 54 just west of the hustle and bustle of Ocean City’s and Fenwick Island’s Coastal Highway. Owned by David and Janet Twining, the restaurant opened in July 2010, to an instant success. The Lobster Shanty secret of success is a pleasing decor, attentive staff, and an interesting menu with quality ingredients.

We wanted to have a nice last lunch in Ocean City before the road trip back home to DC.  We spotted the Lobster Shanty on our way up, and made note to stop in before we left.  With a magical view of the marsh, we sat on the deck bar on this gorgeous day.  Up close, I watched ducks swim through the channels and up into the mud.  In the distance, I saw boats under the bridge.  It was a very cool view, indeed.

To start, we shared the Chunky Lobster Guacamole made with fresh avocado with lots of lobster, served with pico de gallo and chips.  The lobster gave a nice sweet and chunky twist to the guacamole, and overall I loved this starter.

We also shared the Middle Neck Clamssteamed by the dozen with garlic butter, white wine, and fresh parsley.  These are my favorite style of fresh clams and I only wish we had more.  The butter-wine combo was to die for, and we dipped some toast points to soak up every last drop.

Feeling full already, I suggested we share a sandwich.  Keith chose the Hot Old Bay Lobster Roll
served with fries and cole slaw.  This Northeastern sammy had a Eastern Shore twist with the Old Bay.  Sometimes I find the seasoning to be overpowering, but it was just right on this sandwich.  The roll was nice and buttery as well.

The ambience and service was so pleasant and relaxing, that truly elevated our lunch experience.  I highly recommend stopping at the Lobster Shanty if you're in the area.
