Le Bar à Huîtres Montparnasse is located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, and offers the largest selection of oysters in France. On our last day in Paris, we stopped here for lunch after a full morning of waiting in lines to see more tourist attractions. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so we sat outside on the patio.
We ordered a bottle of crisp sauvignon blanc to accompany our light seafood lunch. It was lovely and perfect for day drinking.
We started with 18 fresh
French oysters - 6 each of 3 different varieties. The presentation was simple and fun with dry ice and lemon wedges. The oysters themselves were plump and briny and some of the biggest I've had. They were incredible, and we could have eaten a dozen more but decided to try some of the other options.
We shared a
Salmon Ceviche of sorts marinated with star anise and mixed with pickled seaweed. It was light and refreshing.
We also shared a warm dish of
Grilled Calamari served with potatoes and a herb sauce. This dish was full of Mediterranean flavors and was a nice counter to the cold dishes.
We had just enough to hold us over to dinner and enjoyed sitting in the sun outside. The next time we return to Paris, I will be sure to come back for dinner and try even more of the lovely seafood options.
