Blue Smoke

A pioneer in New Yorks' vibrant and growing barbecue scene, Blue Smoke has opened up shop at the Nationals Ballpark right here in Washington, DC. Located next to the Box Frites stand, Blue Smoke's menu offers a selection of regional barbecue styles from across the country including St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, Texas, and North Carolina.

With a limited amount of items on the menu, and at slightly higher ballpark prices, we sampled Blue Smoke's fare at a recent Yankees vs. Nationals game.  I tried the pulled pork sandwich that was very meaty, even a little too much for my pseudo-vegetarian palate, but had good flavor from the not-too-sweet-not-too-vinegary sauce.  I also liked the buttery Brioche bun and the pickles.  Keith messily ate the spare ribs and thought they were very good as well, with a nice amount of meat on the bones.  Keith's father tried the fried bologna sandwich and commented how it was like a flat smoked hot dog, but again enjoyed the barbecue sauce.  Overall, Blue Smoke offers decent barbecue fare for the ballpark. As a personal preference, I may not order it again since I am not the biggest fan of pork.  However, I think they have a chicken sandwich on the menu that I would be willing to try next time.
